- World Cup 1962 -

The 1962 FIFA Football World Championship was hosted by Chile. The seventh edition of the World Cup was marred by overly defensive tactics and violent play. Chief victim was Pelé, who was injured out of the tournament early on. In his absence players like Garrincha, Didi, and Vava took centre stage as Brazil won their second title in succession, beating surprising co-finalists Czechoslovakia 3-1 after going a goal down. England made it to the quarter-finals. Hosts Chile reached third place.
