- World Cup 1982 -

The 1982 FIFA Football World Championship was hosted by Spain. A Brazil featuring the likes of Zico, Socrates, Falcao and Junior delighted the world with an exhibition of samba-style attacking football. However, a Paolo Rossi hattrick in a decisive encounter with Italy in the second group round meant an unexpectedly early end to their bid for the title. The Italians promptly went on to win the cup, beating West Germany in the final.
